Description
On March 14 Newton voters will be asked to consider three Proposition 2 ½ override ballot questions totaling just under $15 million. The first question would add $9.2 million to the city?s general operating budget. Two additional debt exclusion overrides questions seek funds to rebuild two elementary schools: $2.3 million annually to repair the Countryside School and $3.5 million annually for the Franklin School.
While all Newton businesses pay property taxes, not all Newton business owners live in the city and can vote on these proposed tax increases. But our entire business community is invited to attend this virtual town hall with Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller and Interim Superintendent of Schools Kathy Smith.
We'll ask Mayor Fuller to give a brief overview of her tax increase proposal and then invite members of the business and nonprofit community to directly ask questions and share their thoughts. While the event is open to everyone, questions and participation from our business and nonprofit community be our focus.
