Member Event: The Impact of Digital Accessibility on People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an annual movement to get people thinking and talking about what inclusion means, the impact of digital accessibility and how we can all make a difference.

Each year, on the third Thursday of May, organizations around the world participate in the event in order to share information and raise awareness. The impact of digital accessibility is tremendous—done correctly, it allows for easier navigation and understanding by a wide range of users. Accessible digital environments foster meaningful community inclusion.

So how do individuals who are blind or visually impaired utilize various devices to choose and use their preferred services or e-commerce merchants? Accessibility barriers can negatively impact or prevent persons with disabilities from accessing digital content. You may wonder what it is like to actually encounter these blockers to education, employment, and daily living tasks.

The Carroll Center for the Blind’s Accessibility Services team will be hosting a webinar in recognition of GAAD. Join us on Thurs. May 20 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. EDT and meet our three consumer panelists. This year’s panelists include a college student, an employee, and a retiree who are blind or visually impaired. Each individual will share their experiences and challenges navigating the digital world using various devices and assistive technologies. We invite you to come learn about their triumphs and frustrations with digital accessibility.
