Description

After a two-year absence, our annual Fall Business Breakfast -- the region's largest gathering of business and civic leaders- is returning to the Newton Marriott Hotel.

And since this is the first time for the breakfast since we've expanded into Wellesley and Watertown, this event will encompass an even wider range of business and civic leaders.

Our featured speaker Jeff Speck is an internationally renowned city planner and author. His books, videos, and projects have helped communities rethink and reimagine how we get the very best from our downtowns and village centers. We'll follow Speck's presentation with a panel discussion exploring the state of our communities with the municipal leaders from our four chamber communities:·

• Needham Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick
• Watertown City Manager George J. Proakis
• Wellesley Executive Director Meghan Jop

Each year at our annual Fall Business Breakfast our Board of Directors Executive Committee presents the R.L. Tennant Award to one chamber member who has made an extraordinary contribution to our business community.

This year we will present the Tennant Award to Linda Sloane Kay, who is retiring from our board this year after serving as our chair during the height of the pandemic and as chair of our governance committee and in other capacities over many years.

Kay was Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Century Bank, the largest family-controlled bank in New England, and was well known for its extraordinary philanthropy and community service. Century merged with Eastern Bank in 2021. She is currently Managing Partner of Sloane Enterprises, LLC, an owner and manager of retail and office properties in Massachusetts.
