Description
Help us document Newton history before it disappears forever! For this proposed NewtonSERVES project at Newton Cemetery, volunteers will record inscriptions and photograph some of the oldest monuments in this historic garden-style cemetery. Supervision and materials will be provided. The project will begin with training and then volunteer groups will walk to designated areas of the cemetery to collect information from grave markers and headstones.
Be prepared for standing on uneven terrain. Due to the nature of materials being used, project will not take place in inclement weather.
There is an opportunity for volunteers to continue with this project after the NewtonSERVES event through the Friends of Newton Cemetery. The goal is to document as many of the monuments in the cemetery as possible, making this an ongoing project.
